A little history about our lovely neighborhood!
In 1904, the Upper West Side saw growth as the IRT expanded up the West Side and the neighborhood that we know (and love) now was further developing; "apartment dwelling" was becoming very popular. By 1910, several beautiful Beaux-Arts buildings had been built and were about to be unveiled. Within a block of each other, on 89th and 90th street, both The Admaston (251 West 89th Street) designed by The Blum Brothers and the Cornwall (255 West 90th Street) designed by Neville and Bagge, made their debuts.
Both considered "modern" for their time, these classic Upper West Side buildings each feature gracious lobbies outlined in beautiful marble, mosaics, and stained glass. The exterior of the buildings are terra cotta with ornate cornices. The apartments within were built as, and remain, large 'suite' apartments with exquisite detail including gorgeous wainscoting, inlaid parquet floors, onyx fireplaces and boasted "electrical light fixtures". Along with its neighbors, Astor Court and 610 West End Avenue, they remain among the Upper Side gems and a testament to timeless architectural beauty.
